Jimi Hendrix The Ultimate Lyric Book - Compiled by Janie L. Hendrix
Arriving in time for Hendrix’s 70th birthday is this collection featuring never-before-seen songs, photos, and handwritten lyrics
Jimi Hendrix was such an extraordinary guitarist, it is easy to forget that
just as much passion, soul, and precision went into his lyrics. Inspired by
Bob Dylan, Hendrix was a fearless lyrical innovator, willing to let his
imagination guide him to uncharted landscapes within the pop music realm.
From the existential euphoria of “I Don’t Live Today” to the elusive beauty
of “Little Wing” to the psychedelic blues of “My Friend” to the otherworldly
“1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be),” his lyrics remain among the greatest
in the pantheon of rock, infused with the same inventiveness, virtuosity,
and courage that informed his guitar playing.
Jimi Hendrix: The Ultimate Lyric Book (Backbeat Books, November 2012, $40)
contains all the words to the Hendrix classics fans have rocked along to for
years, as well as unpublished songs from “Valley of Neptune” and other
previously undiscovered sources. Compiled by Jimi’s sister, Janie L.
Hendrix, Jimi Hendrix: The Ultimate Lyric Book is
extraordinarily personal, and includes numerous examples of Jimi’s
handwritten lyrics, often scribbled on hotel stationery, as well as photos
of him that accompany every song.
Much of the material has never been seen before. “When I was a child, I was
always fascinated by my brother Jimi's handwriting,” recalled Janie Hendrix,
who compiled this collection. “It was an art form in and of itself. I
remember the feeling of being captivated the first time I saw his
handwritten lyrics, thinking how beautiful, how complicated both the writing
and the words were on paper. Even now they offer such an insight into who my
brother was and is.”
Jimi Hendrix: The Ultimate Lyric Book will give
fans a glimpse of the lyricist behind the songs, a songwriter whose words
were just as searing as his solos.
Janie L. Hendrix, is president and CEO of Experience Hendrix, LLC, the
official Jimi Hendrix Family Company, and sister of the legendary guitarist.
Her mission as head of the family company is to continue Jimi’s legacy and
to preserve the integrity of his artistic contribution to musical history.
She lives in Seattle. To hear Janie talk about Jimi Hendrix: The

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT - KILLCODE
I
was turned on to this band by a great producer in NY, the infamous Stacy
O'Dell, Man I Owe Him Big, Great Band, Give a Sound Check to KILLCODE.
KILLCODE is a five piece band based in New York City. Their unique sound is a product of their diverse influences and has been described as “Southern infused Metal / Rock with modern vocals”. KILLCODE’s songs are hooky super charged sing along Anthems with BIG Guitars and Driving Rhythms’.
Forming in 2008, vocalist Tom Morrissey and guitarist Chas laid the foundation with a couple of songs they recorded at Chas’home studio. After recruiting long time musical companionErric Bonesmith on bass guitar, KILLCODE found it’s final form with the addition of Pat Harrington on guitar and Rob Noxious on the drums. With all members coming from established projects prior to KILLCODE, the band quickly raised eyebrows and landed onbills with the likes of Godsmack & Sevendust.
KILLCODE also provided main support to Brett Scallions on the Re Fueled East Coast tour. Since their inception, the band has released “To Die For”, a six song EP released at the end of 2008 and a second six song EP,“Taking it All” released in 2010. Both EP’s charted well nationally and gained the band critical acclaim worldwide. The song “Breaking Away”, off of To Die For, was featured in the inspirational documentary, DRESSED, Directed by David Swajeski and starring fashion designer Nari Manivong.
In 2012, they entered the studio once again with Juno nominated producer, Stacy O’Dell, who produced both EP’s, to record the full length, twelve song effort titled, “KILLCODE”. The Album charted in the #2 position for the week of 8/18/12 on BILLBOARD Mid-Atlantic Heatseekers Charts.
The band has enjoyed an ever growing fan base has headlined and sold out marquee venues such as New York City’s Gramercy Theater, Bowery Ballroom and Irving Plaza. KILLCODE is at the top of their game and they are not showing any signs of slowing down. They are ready and able to take their rightful place alongside the biggest rock acts out there.

Compiled
from over 400 interviews conducted by respected music journalists Jon
Wiederhorn and Katherine Turman,
LOUDER THAN HELL: The
Definitive Oral History of Metal (It Books; May 14, 2013; Hardcover; $32.50)
is a
chronological history of heavy metal, told through the words of the men and
women who created it, played it, re-invented it, and continue to rock it.
Revolver
senior editor
Wiederhorn and Nights with Alice Cooper producer Turman
dug deep into their
extensive list of contacts to uncover never-before-heard stories,
eye-opening admissions and the truth behind metal’s most explosive legends.
Candid and confessional commentary comes straight from icons of the genre,
including: Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, Bruce Dickinson, Eddie Van
Halen, Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Lita Ford, Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Axl
Rose, Slash, Corey Taylor, Dave Mustaine, Chuck Schuldiner, Lemmy Kilmister,
King Diamond, Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor, Slayer’s Kerry King, Phil Anselmo,
Rob Zombie and more. With an introduction by Scott Ian of Anthrax and an
afterword by Rob Halford of Judas Priest, and with two 16-page photo
inserts, with some never-before seen candid shots by celebrated rock
photographers Stephanie Cabral and Robert Matheu, this is the book metal
fans have been waiting for.
The many musicians interviewed by these veteran journalists offer their take on their influences, touring, the music business, and songwriting, as well as their often-traumatic upbringings, battles with substance abuse, and bizarre sexual exploits. Industry insiders (including managers, record label executives, family members, friends, scenesters, groupies, journalists, and porn stars) provide additional insight.
From the creation of Black Sabbath in the late
1960s, to Judas Priest’s development of the leather-and-studs look, to
Metallica introducing the world to thrash, to the inception of Ozzfest, to
Faith No More accidentally creating the first hybrid of rap and metal, to
the provocative exploits of the Sunset Strip scene, to the death and
destruction surrounding Norwegian black metal, LOUDER THAN HELL gets to
the meat of the metal matter:
-
Rob Halford of Judas Priest reveals how he kicked cocaine and alcohol in 1986 after tragically witnessing his boyfriend’s suicide and sought solace in spirituality, which has helped the Metal God stay clean to this day.
-
Guns N’ Roses' Axl Rose talks about the early days of Guns N’ Roses, the making of the 36-million-copy-selling debut Appetite for Destruction, and how Robert Willams’ graphic cover art was censored.
-
Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi explains how he lost parts of his fingers while working a day job in a factory – and created homemade prosthetics so he could play guitar, which changed the tonality of the instrument and the sound of heavy metal forever.
-
Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson shares how he dug through his own vomit in search of the balloon of heroin he’d swallowed to avoid being arrested by the police, and then used that heroin to celebrate his victory over not getting busted.
-
Members of Metallica and Anthrax detail the horrifying events of 1986 when Metallica’s tour bus crashed and tipped over, crushing bassist Cliff Burton beneath it while the rest of the members escaped relatively unscathed.
-
Alice Cooper reveals how it was really wheelchair-bound members of his AUDIENCE who tore the live chicken apart during his fateful concert in Toronto, while Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne give first-person accounts of Ozzy biting the head off a dove while wasted during a high-level record company meeting, and decapitating a bat onstage during his Diary of a Madman tour.
-
Hellhammer, drummer of Norway’s pioneering black metal band Mayhem, talks about ex-vocalist Dead committing suicide and how guitarist Euronymous used a chunk of Dead’s brain to make a Mexican stew.
-
Biohazard guitarist Billy Graziadei details how gang bangers stabbed a member of the group’s posse with a hunting knife while shouting, “Payback, Motherfucker!” and how the band vowed to retaliate. Vocalist Evan Seinfeld also recounts his graphic sexual liaisons while on tour, and how they led to his career in porn.
-
Slipknot bassist Paul Gray (who died of an overdose at age 38 during the writing of LOUDER THAN HELL) discusses the evolution of the lineup; physical fights between band members, and his own struggles with addiction.
LOUDER THAN HELL
explores the transformation of metal culture, with stories and anecdotes
straight from the mouths of the most infamous and successful bands. Filled
with hundreds of revealing interviews representing every type and era of
heavy metal—from metal progenitors such as Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, and the
MC5 to current day innovators including Slipknot, Mastodon, and Lamb of God—LOUDER
THAN HELL is the ultimate look behind the curtain at one of our most
dynamic, controversial and enduring musical genres.

CANDLELIGHT RED and STOLEN BABIES to Open Select Dates
Marking
their first U.S. live performances in over 10 years, 90’s alt-metal band
COAL CHAMBER is pleased to announce that they are back in action and
kicking off a co-headline tour with Sevendust this spring. The tour
will also feature special guests Lacuna Coil as direct support on
each date, as well as Candlelight Red and Stolen Babies
opening on either half of the run (see the split below). See below for a
full listing of North American tour dates.
Each member of COAL CHAMBER
had words to share about the announcement.
“I'm STOKED to be bringing COAL CHAMBER back to the United States,” exclaims vocalist Dez Fafara. “These shows are going to rule! The line-up is perfect! Hope to see you all there!”
The past has fuelled the fire to bring COAL CHAMBER back stronger than ever,” adds drummer Mike Cox. “I couldn’t be more excited to tour the states on an amazing tour. HERE WE GO!”
I’m really excited and grateful to be a part of such an awesome bill! We will be slaying it across America and the world,” adds guitarist Meegs Rascón.
Bassist Chela Rhea Harper states, “America is where COAL CHAMBER started; where the music first came to life. The entire experience in Australia and South America has been so surreal up until this point, and to be able to continue this adventure on the band's home soil is an honor. The support from all has been tremendous.”
Sweden's ELDKRAFT release new song on RockHard.de
Sweden's
ELDKRAFT is a musical constellation whose primary foundation rests on
epic metal while drawing experimental influences from ancestral musical
traditions of the North and spiritual guidance of its hermetic crafts.
Shaman, the debut album, is a psychedelic trip gazed upon through
contemporary elements, circumnavigating journeys of knowledge, growth and
the ecstasy of the soul.
Now ELDKRAFT have released the second single off their upcoming debut
album Shaman! Head over to the website of Rock Hard Germany
HERE for the exclusive premiere of Gränslos Gräns!
Comments Poison Tongue founder/PRIMORDIAL singer A.A. Nemtheanga on his
latest signing: "I was turned on to Eldkraft by Mortuus from Marduk and
instantly recognized even in its raw demo form, here was something genuine,
and it had the potential to be a massive pagan metal album. Not the cartoon
stuff but the real deal, immersed in ancient shamanism and traditions with
the spirit of Bathory somewhere deep in its bones…Eldkraft!"
Please head over to the landing page at
www.metalblade.com/eldkraft to feel the forbidding power ELDKRAFT
is able to unleash. Their first single Gammal Krigare is up there for
you to check out as well as the album's artwork and the pre-order links.
ELDKRAFT's debut album Shaman will be released the 24th
/27th of May, 2013 in Europe via Metal Blade Records on CD and LP. The LP
will be a gatefold double-LP with an exclusive bonus track entitled
Shaman. Shaman will be available digitally in North
America on May 28th.
2011 was the year when J. Sandin and H. Karlsson chose to embark on a
different path, having reached the end of the line with previous projects
and bands. After hearing demo recordings, Metal Blade saw the potential of
ELDKRAFT and expressed immediate interest.
With a record deal firmly in place, ELDKRAFT immortalised ten songs
for their debut album in their own studio Epidemic, while N. Fjellström
recorded the drums in studio Necromorbus. Mixing and mastering was completed
under the watchful eye of Magnus Devo Andersson of Endarker Studio Sweden.
